Are you planning on attending the 2015 Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show? Gayle Trent and I are! Queen of Cakes Kerry Vincent has invited us to be there to promote Killer Wedding Cake!
This year’s theme is Fashion Week. We can hardly wait to see all the beautiful cakes, to see Ms. Vincent again, and to meet some of the wonderful cake artists (fingers crossed that Rosemary Galpin will be there)!
So, will you be there? If so, please let me know!
The random number generator chose number 3 for our book giveaway winner! And that is…Sharon Dixon! Sharon, please send me your mailing address via private message to email@example.com and I’ll get your book in the mail right away. Congratulations! I hope you enjoy the book!
If you didn’t win, there’s a giveaway going on at Goodreads through October 16 wherein five copies will be given away. Plus, I’m sure I’ll be doing more giveaways soon. After all, what’s Halloween without a treat or two? 🙂
And speaking of gorgeous cakes….
I want to give a shout-out to Rosemary Galpin, whose recipes are included in BATTERED TO DEATH, for her success at this year’s Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show! Rosemary won first place in the Master’s Chocolate, Chocolate category for this gorgeous cake.
And she won second place in the Master’s Tiered Cakes – Non Wedding for this beauty:
And…are you ready for this…? Our Rosemary Galpin won SECOND PLACE in the prestigious GRAND NATIONAL WEDDING CAKE COMPETITION with this stunning creation:
Cake Central does it again! The site has put up a wonderful tutorial for making a cowboy hat! They make it look so easy. 🙂
Get the tutorial by clicking here. If you make a cowboy hat cake, please upload pictures to show me and the Killer Cakes readers! We’d love to see the results of your hard work.
Spotlight: Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show
Can you believe it? The Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show is celebrating its twentieth year this year! This year’s event takes place on September 28 and 29 (with competitor setup on September 27), and the theme is ballet.
Would you like to compete in this year’s show? If so, please see the entry forms, rules, and setup instructions HERE. Please note, entries must be postmarked no later than September 2, 2013.
It’s almost that time again–time for one of the most prestigious cake-decorating competitions in the country: the Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show. If you’re a cake enthusiast and you’ve never been to the show, I encourage you to go if you get the chance.
This year’s theme is “Headgear, Hats, and Headbands,” and the festivities begin on September 28 and continue through September 30. Daily demonstrations will be provided by Celebrity Edible Art Stars, Martin Howard and Orlando Serrano.
Take a look at the video below comprised of photographs Gayle Trent took at the competition she attended a few years back. There’s even a photo of Gayle with Food Network Challenge Judge and Master Sugar Artist Kerry Vincent!
Again, the show is scheduled for September 28-30 at the Tulsa State Fair’s Quiktrip Building, Sugar Art Location No. 42 on Fair Map.
Thanks to the incomparable Kerry Vincent, Killer Sweet Tooth debuted at the 2011 Oklahoma Sugar Art Show in Tulsa this past weekend. (Pictured is Karen Portaleo’s entry at last year’s show.) Ms. Vincent was instrumental in getting some pre-publication buzz for Daphne’s third adventure among the premiere cake decorators in the country. Both Gayle and I appreciate Ms. Vincent’s kindness and generosity!
Please note, we’ll be having a contest prior to Killer Sweet Tooth‘s release on October 11 (next Tuesday). So please stay tuned for details. There will be lots of great prizes to be won, including, of course, copies of Killer Sweet Tooth.
This weekend–October 1-3–Kerry Vincent will be hosting the Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show. Set up will take place on Friday, October 1. Below is the 2009 Grand Prize winning cake decorated by Mercedes Strachwsky of Florida. Mercedes’ cake beautifully illustrated the show’s theme, “Of Sea and Shore.”
On Saturday, October 2, visitors can attend the show from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. On Sunday, October 3, the event will be open to the public from 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. (or the conclusion of the awards ceremony).
The Grand National Wedding Cake Competition’s 2010 theme is Mansions and Monasteries. Contestants will “create a showpiece depicting elements from an existing mansion or monastery.”
A special guest to the show this year will be Richard Ruskell. To date, Chef Ruskell has won the most Food Network Challenge comeptitions. Additional guest “stars” include Corporate Chef Donald Wressell, “Cake Chicks” Cheri Elder, Bronwen Weber, and Carolyn Wanke Mangold, and the award-winning chef Andrew Shotts.
If you’re attending the Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show, be sure to check out all the wonderful vendors on hand. You can get some terrific items there–at least, I know I did! Also, if you go, please say hello to Kerry and give her a hug from Daphne and Gayle!
