Marcy’s Musings

Today I’m spotlighting ribbon embroidery.  Please see the links below for some great information on this romantic form of embroidery.

Threads Magazine – Beginner’s Silk Ribbon Embroidery: Five Easy Stitches–In this link, Karen Kieppe gives Threads Magazine readers an in-depth look, including step-by-step instructions on five essential ribbon embroidery stitches.

Victorian Embroidery and Crafts provides a history of silk ribbon embroidery and a lovely example of work which dates back to 1840. The page provides information on how to create the work, too, but I didn’t find it as helpful as the illustrated instructions from Threads.

Better Homes and Gardens also offers readers a step-by-step tutorial on ribbon embroidery. The tutorial demonstrates the straight stitch, the ribbon stitch, the stem stitch, the French knot, the lazy daisy stitch, the loop stitch and the woven rose.
